Bill Boles has requested information on his Buddy's from D/2-506

"Frank I brought these pics to reunion and forgot to show them around. Is it possible to put these on website and maybe some of the D 2/506 guys can remember some of these guys and let me know who they are.
P.S. I know one of the guys is Michael Grimm, I remember he was a big lanky kid from North Carolina.
Thanks
Bill Boles

Hello,

Roger West is looking for information on the chinook helicopter that went
down on Ripcord.  He was wondering when it was shot down, what unit went
into retrive the down Chinook on Ripcord. He thinks he was attached to C Trp
2-17 Air Cav (Condors).  Roger needs help remembering.  He remembers going
in and retrieving a chinook helicopter on LZ Ripcord.  Any information would
be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Ann West

My name is David Hansen.  I am researching my family's military history with the goal of providing information to my family at large of our military heritage.  I and three of my brothers all served in Vietnam, three of us in the Marine Corps and my brother Edwin in the Army.

Ed largely refuses to discuss his time in the Army but did tell me that he served with the 101st 2/506 at Ripcord.  He said he was on one of the last, if not the last, helicopter to leave Ripcord when it was abandoned.  His DD 214 only lists his last assignment at Fort Riley in 1971.

I am attempting to learn any information that I can about Ed's involvement at Ripcord including his company or anyone that might remember him.  Ed has lived a pretty tragic live after his return from Vietnam and has several estranged children.  I would like to give them something to help them better understand their father and what he lived though.  Ed is one of those unfortunate soldiers that was unable to recover after Vietnam and is dying from alcholism.  Any help you can give me would be very much appreciated.

Just checked his DD214 again and it indicates his specialty number & title was 11B20  Lt. Wpns Inf.

Sincerely,

David Hansen

I graduated from artillery OCS in May 1970, about half of my class got orders for Vietnam, and the rest of us were promised that we to would be there within a few months but I was sent to Korea instead. Steve Olson was a friend of mine and I pay tribute to his death with a rubbing from the wall which I display at my office. I have carried a little guilt through all these years; it was just an unlucky draw for Steve. I sent him a letter from Ft. Riley and it came back KIA.

I’m looking for any additional information about his FO ability and anybody that might have known him in such a short time in country. Is there any other source of information about the battle where is killed.

 Thanks for the help.
